SDL Rally 2012
The SDL 2012 National Annual Rally at Spier, Stellenbosch.
Where were you on Saturday 24th November, 2012, at 18:00?
If you weren’t one of the more than two hundred guests at Spier Wine Estate, near Stellenbosch, then I must tell you that you missed out on the event of the year:
The prestigious Annual SDL National Rally.
The ‘Cape Doctor’ blew with extra force as we drove through the beautiful surroundings of the Stellenbosch countryside. Immediately upon entering the Spier Wine Estate one could sense that this was a special venue and that we were in for a real treat!
At the function venue, situated inside the glamorous Convention Centre, all guests were welcomed by CEO Kobus Geldenhuys and tables were allocated by hostess and function organiser, Marinda Steenkamp.
The Rally started just after six when our Master of Ceremonies for the evening, Nikko Howland, took to the stage and opened the proceedings. All those attending were greeted and a special welcome was extended to our distinguished guests from Metropolitan International: The CEO Mervyn Cookson and his beautiful wife, Brenda as well as the Regional Director Johann Basson and his beautiful wife, Kim.
The entertainer for the evening was Loren Erasmus, a SDL member from Paarl. Loren is a young vibrant classical and contemporary vocalist with an angelic voice. She sang two beautiful songs that were greatly appreciated by all of us.
The starter was then served and the rest of the delicious meals on the menu were served in-between the various items on the agenda.
We had testimonials from two committed members i.e. Mari Louw from Cape Town and Othinial Hadebe from Johannesburg. Two lucky draws were done during the proceedings with the last excited winner walking away with an amazing Canon digital camera.
Alexander Nel, SDL’s software developer, explained to us the improvements that were due to be implemented on the SDL Website before the end of the first quarter of 2013. These improvements would turn it into a very user-friendly member’s site and an amazing toolkit for marketers.
The National Marketing Manager, Marius Sprong, introduced his entire Senior Marketing Managers Team and in turn they each gave a short summary of developments and progress at their respective nationwide offices.
We also had the pleasure to receive an excellent motivational talk presented by George Rauch. This speaker has the gift of speaking. Without any notes, which had a great impact on the audience, he said just enough to make people sit upright and think.
The entire staff at Head Office was called to the stage and introduced to the audience, with the functions they performed, so that the clients could put a name to a face the next time they phoned Head Office. Mlindi Maxakana was given the opportunity to thank his colleagues for being such a great team.
Next, the prize giving. This is always the grand finale of every Rally and something every member looks forward to in great anticipation. The CEO, Kobus Geldenhuys, took to the stage and thanked al the staff, marketers and clients for the faith they put in SDL and for their hard work this entire year. He extended a special thanks to his beautiful wife, Lynette, who had stood by his side and had loved and supported him all the way. Marinda Steenkamp, after being presented with a reward by Lynette Geldenhuys, assisted Kobus with the rest of the prize giving. Kobus then called to the stage: Yvonne Hayes, Jenny Walthers, Othinial Hadebe, Lukie Jansen van Vuuren and Marius Sprong. He announced that they and their partners had, because of their hard work, won a trip on a cruise ship early 2013 – they will also be accompanied by directors Luke Geldenhuys and Bernard Smit and their partners!
Last item on the agenda featured our charming hostess, Marinda Steenkamp, who gave everybody some Food for Thought with the bottom line message of: NEVER GIVE UP!
A final word from Nikko, the MC, on closing the proceedings of an unforgettable event, was a special word of thanks to Marinda Steenkamp for arranging this awesome function that was thoroughly enjoyed by one and all.
The dance floor was then “officially” declared open and our Rally photos prove that our guests enjoyed the music and the most enjoyable atmosphere.
Hope to see you (again) at the 2013 SDL Rally!
